HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM ALL OF US AT SIDE BY SIDE CYMRU

Side by Side Cymru is extended until the end of March: there is an online national event on the 25th of February; we are planning a West Wales event for March; and some additional peer support grant funding will be available very soon.

MIND CONSULTS WITH THE WEST WALES PEER SUPPORT NETWORK

As part of the evaluation of the Side by Side Cymru peer support programme, National Mind would like to understand the role and value of peer support to the people participating in it.   Mind Aberystwyth has been busy contacting the members of the Network to see who would like to take part.  Every participant will receive a £30 gift voucher from National Mind as a thank you.

Participants are given the option of an online or telephone interview and they will be asked questions about how peer support has contributed to their lives, in terms of social isolation, wellbeing, empowerment and their human connection with others. The focus will be on the voice of the individual.  The interviews are open and unstructured with just a few key prompts, inviting people to share their story through peer support.

PREPERATIONS ARE IN HAND FOR MIND’S VIRTUAL PEER SUPPORT EVENT

The Side by Side Cymru team is preparing its presentation to the delegates of the Peer Support in Wales virtual event on Thursday 25th of February.  Joining Mind Aberystwyth will be peer support champions from the West Wales Peer Support Network, further details to follow.

GOBAITH FUNDING UPDATE

The grants panel for the Gobaith Peer Support Project met before Christmas and awarded grants to two peer support groups.  Details of the successful applicants will be announced soon.

The Gobaith Peer Support Project is a short-term initiative being run in partnership by Mind Aberystwyth, Mind Pembrokeshire and Llanelli Mind.  The project aims to support the setup or continuation of suicide and self-harm community / peer support groups within the West Wales community.

Any enquiries about peer support, the West Wales Peer Support Network or Gobaith please contact Mind Aberystwyth on 01970 626225 or write to peersupport@mindaberystwyth.org
