Side by Side Cymru
Side by Side Cymru, the peer support in the community project for West Wales, was launched in Spring 2019. We are pleased to announce the project has been extended until March 2022.
We present a short Side by Side Cymru video featuring some of our peer support participants 2019 to 2021. Many thanks to everyone who contributed. See below for further information on Side by Side Cymru.
Peer support is where people use their own experiences to help each other. This can be through a group, one to one or online and may involve activities such as crafts, walking or meeting for coffee.
Side by Side Cymru has funded over 80 community groups with small grant funding to a value of £13500: trained 350 people in peer support skills and qualities; delivered one to one coaching for people who facilitate and lead community groups; and hosts the West Wales Peer Support Network.
The Network has a membership of over 100 groups and individuals with an interest in peer support. Members receive up to date bulletins about peer support in their area and details of peer support funding and training opportunities.
We are pleased to be providing even more opportunities for small grant funding up to £250, one to one coaching, peer support workshops and networking events until March 2022.
Who can take part?
- Anyone involved in running a community group where peer support takes place.
- Anyone who is interested in setting up a peer support group.
- Organisations who want to support people to run a peer support group.
- Your organisation or group must be in Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire or Carmarthenshire.
We are particularly interested in working with:
- Groups led by and for people from racialised communities
- Groups led by and for young people (aged 18 – 25)
- Groups led by and for people from the LGBTQI community
- Groups led by and for men
These groups may have been unable to meet during the pandemic and may need help with starting online group meetings. Or groups that have been meeting online during the pandemic and wish to re-establish their groups once it is Covid safe to meet face to face.
Where is it?
Our sessions take place in Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and online.
Learn about practical activities and ideas about how to make sure groups run smoothly, as well as how to deal with problems when they occur.
A great chance to meet new people and share experiences of peer support. Each event will cover different topics and feature guest speakers
