What is Active Monitoring?
Active Monitoring is a six-week guided self-help programme to help you understand and feel more in control of your emotions. That means we provide you with all the tips and tools you’ll need to understand yourself better, and support you through the course with regular phone calls.
In your first phone call, you and your Active Monitoring practitioner will explore if the service is right for you. Together, you’ll agree a programme of support covering any of the following topics:
- Low self-esteem
- Feeling alone
- Managing anger
- Grief and loss
Each week you’ll receive materials to help you understand and manage your feelings. These might include explanations of how and why we experience different feelings, a thought diary, or mindfulness techniques.
But you won’t have to complete these alone. Your Active Monitoring practitioner will call you each week to talk about how you’re feeling and help with any issues you have. All you need is a phone number to get started.

Q. How do I sign up?
A. If you have access to email then please download the referral form, complete it, then return it to us at firstname.lastname@example.org. If not, then please call us on 01970 626225 and we can send you a form in the post. If we are unable to answer straight away then please leave us a voicemail.
Q. How can it help me?
A. Active Monitoring helps by giving you insight into your mental health and giving you practical ways to understand and manage your emotions. By the end of the course, you should have more understanding of feelings, why you are experiencing them and how to manage them, and feel more in control.
Q. I have existing mental health problems, is this right for me?
A. Active Monitoring can work alongside other treatment plans and our Active Monitoring Practitioners will talk you through the programme and whether it’s right for you, in your first consultation. If you have different needs, you practitioner will be able to put you in touch with other services that might be able to help.
Q. Do I need a referral from my GP?
A. No. You can start Active Monitoring by completing a referral form yourself and emailing it to us, or sending it back by post.
Q. I don’t live in Wales, can I still access this service?

Q. Is there a waiting list?
A. There is not currently a waiting list. Once you get in touch you will be contacted within a week.
Q. How serious do my problems need to be?
A. This is a service for anyone who feels that their emotions are getting on top of them, and this could be for many reasons. You do not need to have a diagnosed mental health problem to access this service.
Q. I signed up but I haven’t been contacted yet. When will you contact me?
A. You should have been contacted within seven days. If you have heard nothing, please email AMCymru@Mind.org.uk
Q. How much does it cost?
You do not need to pay to use Active Monitoring. It is a free service, thanks to funding by Welsh Government.
Q. I don’t have access to an email address – can you post me the materials?
Yes. Materials can be posted to you instead of emailed if you would prefer. This will be agreed in your first call with the Active Monitoring practitioner.
Q. Is it available in Welsh?
All the materials are available in Welsh and English. Where possible, we will partner you with a Welsh speaking practitioner if preferable.
